Reader Reviews:The best audio poetry ever ! (1/1 people found this helpful)This is by far the best product of its kind for those who enjoy listening to poetry. The choice of poems is judicious: this is a real anthology including the pieces that have stood the test of time, not those representing the tastes of a passing radio audience. Hitting the right tone when reading out poetry is very, very difficult - as evidenced by the fact that most poetry audiobooks on the market are disappointing - and the narrators here are simply outstanding! The musicality and gravity of e.g. A.E. Housman and Thomas Hardy really come into their own through the voices of such artists as John Moffat and Andrew Sachs. There are no disturbing gimmicks attached to this set: no intrusive music, no presentation in the form of a chart, no reading "by the author himself". There is, however, that most useful of additions: a booklet with the text of the poems. The only shortcoming is the lowish sound quality (is this an intentional device to discourage copying?). I hope these recordings will be remastered and made available on compact disc for those of us who, like me, have bought a new car unequipped with a cassette reader. It would be a crime to let this set become yet another first-rate production with "limited unavailability". CategoriesAmazon.co.uk places this book into the following categories:
