I recently completed my Religious Studies A-level in one year, and got an A grade. This book has been an indispensable part of that.

What got me through by A Level RS (0/0 people found this helpful)

This book is essential for all taking this subject. Philosophy is very confusing and hard to understand and many take RS as what i call a 'bird course', which they think they can fly right through with little work and get high grades. THIS HOWEVER IS NOT SO!!!

If you are interested in this subject and chose it for the right reasons then you will find this book extremely helpful. However if you are not willing to use your brain they the wording may seem confusing.

I bought 3 A level books, and this is by far the best. It contains notes no the side full of simplified explanations and quotes which are vital for your exam essays. The book covers a wide range of topics and if you are in Wales and are studying WJEC board there are no books for that board, but this one works great, showing how detailed it is.

If you find this book too complex or unhelpful then i sugest you drop your course because it is not the right subject for you.

Embarassing (2/5 people found this helpful)

This book does not suit me so, as this is my personal review, I give it a low score. The reasons for this score are how (it isn't) useful for the "better students" it seems to spoonfeed ideas in a poorly worded, also confusing, manner and even goes so far as to call cryogenics a science in the latter part.

What bothers me most? The poor understanding of any science related topics such as evolution (which is inexcusable in any A-level textbook, again my personal view) and how a religious viewpoint is put forth (e.g. the artificial end-points if arguments against religion) This textbook may be useful for the course, but my own view is that to be a good philosopher requires inspired ideas and true understandings rather than spouting the same-old same-old (Christian-bound viewpoints disregarding other world religions and philosophies)

3/5 stars

ok as a starter but not for the top graders (5/10 people found this helpful)

given as a course textbook, this book covers the main detail of the course but i personally think it lacks in the analysis, which examiners want to see for the top grades. If you revised this book alone, you probably wouldnt get higher than a C but is fine as a foundation for extra reading.

Best AS promised! (12/13 people found this helpful)

Studying Philosophy of Religion at AS level could not have been more easy with this easily usable and highly recommended (by all Religion teachers and lecturers i know)A level book. It's side notes break down the text and make revision so much easier when it comes to the final exam. It includes quotes from Philosophers such as David Hume and St Augustine making it a worthwhile and interesting read-even if your'e not studying the subject at A-Level!!! Thumbs up!
