Editorial Review:Pippi is an irrepressible, irreverent and irrefutably delightful girl who lives alone (with a monkey) in her wacky house, Villa Villekulla. When she's not dancing with the burglars who were just trying to rob her house, she's attempting to learn the "pluttification" tables at school, fighting Adolf, the strongest man in the world at the circus or playing tag with police officers. Pippi's high-spirited, good-natured antics cause as much trouble as fun, but a more generous child you won't find anywhere. Astrid Lindgren has created a unique and lovable character, inspiring generations of children to want to be Pippi. More than anything, Pippi makes reading a pleasure; no child will welcome the end of the book, and many will return to Pippi Longstocking again and again. Simply put, Pippi is irresistible. (Ages 9 to 12) Reader Reviews:pippi (0/0 people found this helpful)Pippi is crazy and cheeky and so much fun..this was my favourite book for a long time. I want to get all of Pippi's books now that I heard there is more than one. I wish I had a friend like Pippi living next door If you like Lola, you will LOVE Pippi! (0/0 people found this helpful)I have been reading Pippi Longstocking to my 4 year old, and keeping her up late - we can't get enough of it! If you love the cheekiness and quirkiness of Charlie and Lola, then you will adore Pippi. It's hard to believe that this book was written over 60 years ago, you can certainly see where Lauren Child got her inspiration from! Lauren's illustrations suit this story perfectly. It is an absolute classic and a real gem. I will be buying copies for all my daughters' friends 5th birthdays!!! I just really hope that the publishers will bring us lots more Astrid Lindgren classics, illustrated by Lauren Child.
Lauren Child catapults Pippi into 21st century childhood. Hurrah! (28/28 people found this helpful)What an inspired idea! The moment I saw the cover of this I had to have a copy - Lauren Child's illustrations are the perfect accompaniment to give this timeless classic a contemporary twist. Pippi is a `girl power' heroine, a strong self-assured funky little character with her sticking out red plaits and freckle, and an honest independence of spirit and a resourcefulness you can but admire. Instead of parents, she lives with her monkey, a horse and a stash of gold! She has two good friends to whom she tells tall tales and with whom she has a lot of fun. I recently read a borrowed original to my six-year old daughter who thought it was a smashing story. This beautifully produced edition with its frequent colourful illustrations (a red-based palette, so yes you should get a copy for your boys), well spaced words, and cleanly laid out pages feels friendly enough for my daughter herself to pick it up to read and it will surely be read again and again. A triumph! You MUST read this to your child (1/2 people found this helpful)Pippi is not really like other girls. Though she is just a child she lives alone in a large house with her monkey and horse. Her hair is red, her socks are two different colors and , oh yeah, she is the stongest girl in the world. A very unorthodox hero that makes Harry Potter look like an ordinary child. Wonderful. Pippi Longstocking (1/1 people found this helpful)... It is about a girl called Pippi Longstocking. Her dad is the king of a cannibal island Pippi has never been to school and is a bit stupid Pippi is also the strongest girl in the world. There are other characters called Tommy and Annika. They are Pippi`s friends. Pippi has a horse and a pet monkey called Mr Nelsion. I enjoyed this book because it is very long and it is about a girl who goes on lots of different adventures. What I did not like about this book was that some adventures were the same and a bit boring I would give this book 8/10.
