Once in lifetime experience (0/0 people found this helpful)

This essay is breathtaking. It has stature and describes the position of the weakness of authoritarian states when the minds of men and women are dissonant with the messages recieved from government. That collapse is inevitable does not remove the sense of danger experienced by those such as Havel. The fact that this essay is not on every A level list is such a shame.

The Powerful words of Vaclav Havel (3/3 people found this helpful)

In this book Havel explores the means and mechanisms used by the Communist powers to render their populations indifferent and powerless. He has a faith in human kind's ability to change what seems to be the unchangeable and that is what is so uplifting about this book. It is an important book for the 21st Century and written so eloquently that Havel's language will sweep you off your feet.A must read for anyone who needs their faith in humankind restored.
