Get this if you're the CTO (or know him) (2/2 people found this helpful)

I was Alan's co-founder of IncrediblInc and have worked with him on a plethora of Rails projects. In my opinion, he's one of Europe's leading Rails developers today. We've built Rails-based social networking apps for a Fortune 500 company and we've built them for start-ups. He really knows what he's talking about.

If you're the CTO of a start-up thinking about developing in Rails, get this book - it will save you months. If you're the CEO, buy your CTO this book. If you're a freelance web developer, get this to make your customers happy. If you're the internal IT department guy, get this to develop a social networking site this weekend and become rich and famous!

Clearly, I'm biased but I am biased because it's *that* useful. Check out the US reviews as well.

A Fantastic, Practical Read (3/3 people found this helpful)

As the Technical Reviewer for this book, I have seen it grow from inception to publication. Along the way I have learnt exciting ways to apply possibly the coolest programming language available, alongside the most powerful web framework known to man, to the growing problem of "Just how do I write a social-networking site?".

This book will take you through just about every sub-system you will need to develop, creating along your surprisingly short journey the social-networking system of your dreams.

Buy two copies today - one to read, and one to keep for posterity.
