Reader Reviews:

5/5 stars

A perfect beginner's guide (0/0 people found this helpful)

If you want to learn Pro Tools, this is THE book. She explains it all very clearly, with excellent worked examples, and never assumes you are a computer expert or a recording engineer. By the time you've finished the book you can do all kinds of things you never even thought of. And if you get completely stuck, she even answers questions via the book's companion website. I can't recommend this book highly enough!

At last - a guide for musicians, not geeks. (2/2 people found this helpful)

This is a superbly set out, step-by-step guide to PTLE. Although the author uses M-Powered, LE users will find little to quibble with.

Gina literally leads the reader through the process of opening Pro Tools for the first time, setting up audio and MIDI tracks, recording, editing, arranging and mixing, with useful sections on file management, exporting of finished works and collaboration. Chapter divisions are logical and the pace of progress demanded is realistic. Examples are all cross-referenced to the Pro Tools Reference Guide, for further technical detail.

The book is copiously illustrated with colourful screenshots throughout. Vital downloads are available free from Gina's website. She also offers help to her readers, via email. I tried it and got a reply within 24 hours!

Little prior knowledge is assumed and the writing style is authoritative without being condescending and the author's personality shines through.
I actually found myself reading this book, as if it were a novel, before I even switched on my Mac.

I looked at the seven or eight Pro Tools guides currently available and settled on this one. If you are primarily a musician or a songwriter, then you should too.
