Reader Reviews:Easy read (0/0 people found this helpful)This is a no-brainer, classic Binchy read - an old-fashioned, slightly twee story that offers few surprises and ends happily ever after. There is no denying that Bincy is good at what she does and this is well written and therefore very easy to read. The problem for me was the subject matter, which just didn't ring true - young, spoilt girl falls in love with a much older man who is a crook and steals all her family's money so to take her mind of it she decides to make a film about a local restuarant and tell the (pretty dull) life stories of its customers. If you like life at a slower pace and are quite happy to suspend the harsh realities of life you will enjoy this book. If it's gritty realism you are after go elsewhere! Discovering Maeve Binchy! (0/0 people found this helpful)This was the first Maeve Binchy book I had read and wow - have I been missing out! Couldnt put this one down and have now purchased several or her other titles so that I can work my way through them all. The characters have also re-emerged in the current book im on which keeps a fantastic continuity. Cant wait to read the rest!
Helsbels (1/1 people found this helpful)I decided to read this book to get me back into reading. I had previously struggled with Hilary Clinton's autobiography and a book by Will Self both of which were hard to read but I enjoyed them. Initially I enjoyed this book and was reminded how I had enjoyed Light a Penny candle and Night Class in the past. Unfortunately after a while, the book became predictable and shallow, I knew exactly what was going to happen and felt it lacked any substance. I would recommend this book if you don't need to think at all but if you want a little more, steer clear. Similar ProductsCategoriesAmazon.co.uk places this book into the following categories:
