Editorial Review:Read Me 2 is an intriguing collection of poetry from a fine cross-section of poets ranging from Allan Ahlberg to John Betjeman, Spike Milligan to William Shakespeare, Kit Wright to William Wordsworth, and Roald Dahl to Emily Dickinson. From the comfortingly familiar: On either side the river lie Long fields of barley and of rye, That clothe the wold and meet the sky; And through the field the road runs by To many-towered Camelot ....? --(Alfred Lord Tennyson)to contemporary wit: Close cropped hair feels good. It should. It gives you street cred - And, as I've always said, It feels like having eyebrows All over your head? --( Linda Marshall)there is truly something for everyone, and with a different poem for every day of the year this excellent selection, which spans the whole range of emotions and seasons, cleverly intermingling the classics with modernity, is a gem of a book that children and adults alike will return to time and time again. The perfect gift for anyone with a love of verse, Read Me 2 is a must have for any self-respecting poetry lover and will introduce those who have previously shied away to the amazing rhythm and magic of words. (Age 9 and over) --Susan Harrison Reader Reviews:Great book (5/5 people found this helpful)Great way to introduce young, and old, to poetry. As a teacher I use this book often with my classes to start the day. Great read, go on treat yourself. Praise for a varied and well-chosen collection (18/18 people found this helpful)The idea of a poem a day is a good one for introducing poetry to a child, since it provides an easily digestible segment, and you can dip in and out of the book from time to time. Many children's collections suffer from being to heartily amusing or condescending, but this book acheives a nice balance between the silly and the serious. A great deal of thought has obviously gone into choosing a mood for each day, without too many seasonal cliches. I was also pleased to find a number of classical favourites along with selections obviously written for children.
