Reader Reviews:Another decent volume of Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall (0/0 people found this helpful)Good general cookery book, similar to some of the other River cottage in style but some very useful basic recipes with very helpful advice and instructions. Dinners require quite a lot of preparation and preplanning but if you have the oportunity results are excellent. I still feel that dessert sections in many of Hugh's books are a bit limited but maybe that reflects his particular taste - plenty of seasonal fruits, big wholesome messy cakes and quite a bit of cream. Must admit I default to Delia for sweet options most of the time River Cottage- Marvellous (0/1 people found this helpful)Good present for my wife who is a big Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall fan-hasn't had it yet but I've just forgotten that I've bought it for her birthday next month and have just asked her what she thought of it for this review. She's looked at me a bit oddly and I've had to confess that I've bought it for her. Damn! It does look really good though and I'm sure the pictures and the stories in it she will really enjoy it. River Cottage Everyday (0/0 people found this helpful)An excellent cookery book from Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, packed with recipes to get the taste buds working. A reeal mixture of the every day recipes and some real dinner party specials. We have used some recipes successfully already and there are many more that we will try in the near future. River Cottage Everyday (0/0 people found this helpful)This is an excellent cookery book, beautifully presented. Easy to follow recipes to create the unusual. Fantastic introduction to each section of the book, with ethical aspects suggesting which choices of ingredients to use. It has introduced new and exciting recipes to my repetoire. Hugh's fantastic lifestyle! (1/3 people found this helpful)I admire Hugh....well certainly for his passion and enthusiasm for what he does and this certainly comes across in this book and the others that he has written for the River Cottage stable. This book in particular highlights some of the more dubious looking veg that many people would be reluctant to try....my favourite is the Beetroot and Walnut hummus....absolutely yummy. However, I can't help feeling uptight in that it is just another "lifestyle" book which claims that if we read it for a few minutes at bedtime it will change our lives forever. Hugh wants us all to grow our own veg and to question where our food comes from and it purveys a lifestyle that many would like to have but sadly for the majority it will remain a dream i.e. the rural idyll, growing your own veg, keeping pigs etc etc. Indeed there are some very good pictures of Hugh cooking in his rustic country kitchen complete with Aga cooker. It looks good in a book and on telly but in reality it is a load of rose-tinted rubbish.
