I love this book to distraction! This book has taught me so much about life in Ancient Egypt, love, war and people in general.
I cannot emphasise enough how good this book is, this should be a compulsory read for everyone. This book will stay with you long after you have finished it, which sounds a little cliché but has never been truer for any book that I've read.

My words here won't do this book justice! The story is told by Egyptian slave, Taita. He tells the turbulent story of his mistress, Lostris, and her lover, Tanus. The attention to detail is incredible and you really get to love and hate the characters accordingly. Wilbur Smith is a master storyteller. The author's note at the back of the book is also very intriguing!

Wilbur Smith's Egyptian series is absolutely fantastic, beginning with River God and following with The Seventh Scroll, Warlock and The Quest. River God is an epic adventure tale set in ancient Egypt with an excellent cast of characters and a deeply satisfying story. The book contains a good blend of action, intrigue, romance and ancient Egyptian culture. Smith portrays Egyptian life in vivid detail, and manages to get their tone precisely correct. This is a wonderful novel which shall remain with you for many years. Definitely one of Wilbur Smith's best!

This is a fantastic read, it takes a little time to get into, but stick with it, as it is quite detailed, it's one heck of a series,the subsiquent titles are, The seventh scroll, which i found by far the best, and incidentally read first out of sequnce, but it stood on its own, the next is Warlock, which is equally good and finally The Quest which i have still to read! but please do read them, they are simply the best.

This is the best book I've ever read! My friend bought it from a second hand shop and gave it to me. To be honest I didn't hold out much hope for the tatty old book, but I am so glad I took the time (Over a month!) to read it.
The story is told so well, the scenery and battle scenes are described so vividly, it's like you are actually there with Taita!
I was GUTTED when I finished this book as I got so totally wrapped-up in this amazing story! The characters are fantastic and captivating from start to finish. Some of the death scenes are mind-blowingly gross but amazingly descriptive!
YOU HAVE TO READ THIS BOOK! Honestly it's awesome!*
I've read Seventh Scroll and Warlock and I've just ordered The Quest too! Wilbur Smith's Egyptian series is fab! I can't fault any of the books so far. Fingers crossed The Quest is just as BRILLIANT as the rest of the Taita stories! xxxx
