Reader Reviews:Enthralling (0/0 people found this helpful)I returned from a Nile Cruise captivated by the history of Egypt and someone leant me a copy of The Quest. On examination I discovered that this was the 4th of a series, so embarked on a journey starting with River God. This is the first Wilbur Smith book I've read and I was impressed. A good story, well written and from what I can make out from my limited knowledge, historically accurate. At 672 pages, a fairly long read, so will probably leave it a couple of books before I resume my journey with The Seventh Scroll. But still looking forward to it. Best book, EVER. In a league of its own (1/1 people found this helpful)My words here won't do this book justice! The story is told by Egyptian slave, Taita. He tells the turbulent story of his mistress, Lostris, and her lover, Tanus. The attention to detail is incredible and you really get to love and hate the characters accordingly. Wilbur Smith is a master storyteller. The author's note at the back of the book is also very intriguing! Brilliant... (4/4 people found this helpful)Wilbur Smith's Egyptian series is absolutely fantastic, beginning with River God and following with The Seventh Scroll, Warlock and The Quest. River God is an epic adventure tale set in ancient Egypt with an excellent cast of characters and a deeply satisfying story. The book contains a good blend of action, intrigue, romance and ancient Egyptian culture. Smith portrays Egyptian life in vivid detail, and manages to get their tone precisely correct. This is a wonderful novel which shall remain with you for many years. Definitely one of Wilbur Smith's best!
river god series (4/4 people found this helpful)This is a fantastic read, it takes a little time to get into, but stick with it, as it is quite detailed, it's one heck of a series, the subsiquent titles are, The seventh scroll, which i found by far the best, and incidentally read first out of sequnce, but it stood on its own, the next is Warlock, which is equally good and finally The Quest which i have still to read! but please do read them, they are simply the best.
