a great speaking-thai starter for anybody - robertson in his forward explains that the book is intended to aid in the translation of the tonal aspects of thai rather than precise and accurate language translation. he focuses on this and excels in clearly explaining the phonetics of the language with plenty of everyday words and expressions to keep you going . . .

this is a fantastic mini-dictionary, invaluable if you are learning thai - pocketsize means it's very handy if you're going to be needing to look up words on the move and the print size is large enough to be able to read the thai script presented aswell.
if you cannot read thai script, it also has the word in romanised form (eg. monkey = ling!), although this method will not always give the exact pronunciation - for a rough reference though, it is adequate.
