Reader Reviews:Go to Romania and find a better one. (17/17 people found this helpful)To begin with, what is obviously missing is the gender of the nouns. Nouns have three genders in Romanian, why is something so fundimental to the language not present in a dictionary? I'm British and my husband is a Romanian graduate. I thought, no matter, I'll simply ask him the genders of the nouns I'm currently studying, and that won't take long. Then, as time has progressed, he, and other Romanians he knows, have stated that many of the meanings of the words translated either way, are totally inaccurate. As the primary purpose of a dictionary is to give accurate meanings, this book gets the lowest rating. A dictionary is meant to give you independence. Don't bother with it. Go to Romania and find a better one. Quite average (5/5 people found this helpful)This book is of average size, lacks many simple words like "clue" and such. The only good thing about it is that it has a pronunciation guide for each language, also, there arent many Romanian dictionaries out there. It's also fairly expensive for what you get. If you don't live in Romania, take it, you find a better one, unfortunatly..... Not of much use (5/5 people found this helpful)This dictionary has a rather poor range of words included in it. It is relatively thick and gives the outward impression of being comprehensive. Opening it leads to disappointment and using it to still more disappointment. We took it on a holiday in Romainia and found it almost useless. However, the competition is rather limited so if one is needed it might be the best of a (very) bad job. Too simplistic for usage beyond general terms (6/6 people found this helpful)In my work as a translator I am always using my dictionary as a reference tool. Although this one is fairly new, it lacks a lot of the depth needed to truly understand a word or concept beyond extremely general words. The set up used by Oxford-Hachette with their French and Spanish dictionaries would be much more convenient (i.e. the addition of commonly used phrases and concept explanations) for anyone looking at this book. Unfortuantely, because Romanian is not one of the more popular languages out there, the amount of good reference material is quite limited. Helpful for study. (2/2 people found this helpful)This paperback book is a convenient size to carry. It includes pronunciation guide in the front for both English and Romanian readers which is very helpful. I just wish it included more words. There have been several words I've tried to look up that I've been unable to find. I've only seen two Romanian-English English-Romanian dictionaries and this is the better of the two. But I do not think the value is as good with this book as with the other Romanian study books I've purchased. Still, if you need a Romanian-English dictionary, you will find this helpful.
