WoW!!! (6/6 people found this helpful)

I'm a 14 year old Teenage girl who doesn't enjoy reading. I got given this book for my birthday and one day decided to open it and give it a try. From the very first chapter I was pulled into the story. I have always enjoyed Africa's history but this book made me look at it from a different view. The story not only shows the struggle of the people but also a great amount of love too. All I can now say is It is a MUST READ!!!

Excellent (5/6 people found this helpful)

A beautifully written book which cleverly combines the issue of apartheid in 1970's South Africa with teenage romance. Highly recommended for readers of all ages.

Ruby Red (9/9 people found this helpful)

I bought this book and read it within 24 hours. It was a gripping story that I was forced to put down when basically I ws just too tired. I bought this book because I read 'The Year The Gypsies Came' and I loved that book so when I saw this one I bought it because I like the way Linzi Glass write her stories. This one is about a girl called Ruby (surprise, surprise) who lives in Johannesburg 1976. She lives in a time when Blacks and Whites were still rivalries, but her parents strongly believe that everyone is equal no matter what colour their skin is. Ruby falls in love with Johann an Afrikan boy 'who's presnce brings hushed whispers and disapproving glances'. I loved this book and I'm reading it for a 2nd time at the moment. It's a really good book. I loved this book and would reccomend it to people who like to read books about reality rather than the boy next door, and also to people who read 'The Year The Gypsies Came'...
