Reader Reviews:Great introduction into Russian literature (1/1 people found this helpful)I have read a lot of English literature and wanted to try something different, so after initially having my interest in Russian literature whetted by Anton Chekhov's The Shooting Party, I wanted to read as many Russian authors as i could, and i found this book. It's got about 40 short stories in it from a huge range of different writers, so if one story doesn't float your boat, there's plenty of others to read!
what a collection (6/7 people found this helpful)This collection of russian short stories is amazing. I love the introductions to every author which help to understand the times the stories were written in so much better. This book gives you the chance to read many newly discovered stories translated into English for the first time. The translations are superb. Buy it and read it. An Excellent Introduction to Russian literature (16/17 people found this helpful)This book is ideal for anyone interested in the genre of Russian literature but unsure as of where to begin.
