Reader Reviews:

3/5 stars

Not her best book. (0/0 people found this helpful)

When I am looking for some easy, escapist reading I usually find Jane Green fits the bill perfectly. I was looking forward to her new book and was slightly irritated that we had to wait almost six months longer than our American friends to get it (when the author is British??). However, when it did come I was slightly disappointed, both with the plot and characters. It felt almost formulaic, slotting itself firmly into the mediocre chicklit genre, something her books have avoided in the past. That is not to say I hated it, some parts were enjoyable, but I did expect better of Green.

Disappointing (0/0 people found this helpful)

Okay, I love all her books but this one not for me. It was so longwinded and went on and on and repeated itself so much. Did she not edit this at all? Plus, the ending was very weird, too unexpected and a let-down. I hope this is not her new direction from now on. I liked the main character okay for a while but she grated on me after about half way through.

Had promise (5/5 people found this helpful)

I have to agree with the other reviewers - this wasn't one of her best books. It started off well; good plot - old friends get together at the funeral of a dear friend. But it took ages to get going and some of the characters were just plain boring. The actress strand was quite interesting; the housewife strand was yawnsville.
And it just wasn't all that funny really. I loved some of Green's other books - like the Life Swap one. And I'm sure she'll hit the jackpot again. But this one took itself too seriously and wasn't much fun. Sorry!

OK but not her best (3/3 people found this helpful)

Agree that this is not one of Jane Green's best books but enjoyable enough all the same

2/5 stars

too clunky to read through (5/7 people found this helpful)

I have read some of Jane Green's books before, and they do vary in how good they are. This is not one of the better ones. I found the narrative, particularly the speech very difficult to wade through. It had that feeling of it being like spaghetti and you wanted to stop, get it all re-written and untangled, then try again!
