Reader Reviews:A short review of short stories by an underrated author! (10/12 people found this helpful)Review of Hjalmar Soderberg's "Short Stories" Name a Swedish author? Either you can't think of one or, at best, you can think of just one, Strindberg. (Or maybe Ibsen? Yeah - but he was Norwegian). Why and where has Soderberg been hidden? Why aren't his short stories better known by the UK book-reading public? Soderberg is a master of this genre. (Don't take my word for this - read the book!). Whether it's the story about the fur coat which betrays a secret, or the story about the drawing which must, surely, have some meaning.. you'll find something in this book which makes you feel that the author understands the human condition. And knows what a sorry condition it so often is! Is the worst thing the life we have now - shown by the man with the artichoke, so clever, so world-wise - who is no more than a shallow fool? Or is the promise of the life to come any better? A dream of eternity? Where things go on and on and on and on and on and on and on... No! The worst thing is that Soderberg's book isn't a lot longer! A really enjoyable read. CategoriesAmazon.co.uk places this book into the following categories:
