Reader Reviews:
A Must for Fans of Silent Movies (1/1 people found this helpful)The writing style is crude, raw and unfunny. What we have is a collection of quotes not just taken from bad films but directly lifted from other books.
If Paul Wellings was an impressionist he would be Bobby Davro rather than Rory Bremner.
I love words, films, famous quotes and quality entertainment which is probably why I hate this second-rate load of tosh. My dad is the best (1/3 people found this helpful)There are fake one and two star reviews on here. Get a life dudes! My dad is the best!
Evey Wellings (daughter) B-Movie Content (2/3 people found this helpful)I was attracted by the title but dissapointed by the content. No great quotes or even funny, amusing or entertaining quotes from my favourite films.
Although bleak & depressing, I must admit I did smile a couple of times and even the odd laugh.
I only laughed out loud just the once and that is when the female character from `Death In Wanstead` said "what goes around comes around" - now that was funny. I thought of `Death Of A Clown` for some reason best known to myself and the film `Another One Bites The Dust`from `One night in Aldgate` - And of the scene where PJ says "I knew his daughter and I am sleeping with her friend" from `Sleeping With The Enemy`
But no quotes from any of the `Carry Ons` or great British movies - and why was `Fatal Atrtraction` - `Brief Encounter` and ` Revenge Is Sweet` overlooked.
There is a need for a great book of quotes - but sadly this is not it! Not Garry Bushell or Jonathan Ross (3/3 people found this helpful)I was attracted by the title, but sadly my favourite films are not mentioned in the text.
Nothing from the Garry Bushell gangster flick The Face, not a word from Carry On With The Cockney Rejects and how could Wellings ignore Saturday Night Specials when he is a close personal friend of the star?
I dont think Jonathan Ross will be quoting this on Film 2008 which is a shame - because the idea behind the book is a good one.
A professional writer like Danny Baker or Garry Bushell could have turned this into a best seller - but the author of this book does not have the wit or wisdom of Tony Blair - let alone Eric Blair.
He is to comedy what Heather Mills McCartney is to ballet dancing. To sum up this book is more gibberish then a John Prescott speech. Warm rather then Hot (5/5 people found this helpful)A fantastic title for a book that tries to lift the lid on Hollywood. Inspired by Jonathan Ross and Danny Baker it sadly lacks the wit and wisdom of Gary Bushell - but it does has its moments.
The lines lifted from Saturday Night Specials are sexy ( as is the movie ) but the review of Courtney Love from Julie Johnson is not worthy of the movie or actress.
Worth buying for the mention of Baby Oil and Ice by Lara Clifton but as a book about cinema it is more Barry Bethal than Barry Norman.
If you like movie quotes then I highly recomend The Punk Poet by Garry Johnson... Similar Products
