Shake 4:
An industry standard digital effects package that has been involved in a lot of effects films over the last 5 years such as Lord of the Rings, Revenge of the Sith, War of the Worlds and the Harry Potter series. However it is a very complicated program to learn and it makes professional software such as Final Cut Pro and Adobe Photoshop look like childrens toys.
This book will make the learning experience a lot smoother and easier, it provides easy-to-follow guides from the basic functions to the tough stuff. It includes a DVD that provides some footage for you to use with the lessons so you don't need to shoot your own footage, so the only equipment you need is a fairly powerful Apple Mac with Shake 4.1 (a 30-day trail version is avilable on the apple website for free and it's also provided with the DVD or you can buy the full version which isn't massively expensive (£329).
I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn Shake 4 because most other alternatives are not as good or completely out of the question for most people, for example, the apple pro training courses while they are probably the best way to learn Shake, it costs over £1000 for just a 5-day course. There are free video tutorials on the net but a lot of them use quite a lot of techno jargon without explaining what it means.
Overall, If you want to learn Shake, look here first and you'll be surprised.
