Reader Reviews:Bloody Brilliant (9/9 people found this helpful)A wonderful book. I have just started to work closely to a young child with down's syndrome who responds to sign language. This book is perfect and ideal for beginers. Helpful Quick Reference Book (6/6 people found this helpful)Am studying BSL 1 and have found this very useful for quick reference. It's only small and obviously doesn't cover BSL in detail but for those everyday signs its really useful. Recommended Handy for quick reference (23/23 people found this helpful)Like the other Cath Smith books, this is a good book to get started with. I found it useful to take with me to my BSL level one classes, since it's quite small but also contains many of the signs you need for that stage. It is similar to the Sign Language Companion, but not identical. The illustrations are clear, although the symbols used to explain movements might take a while to get used to. Overall a good dictionary, there is a lot of information considering the size of the book. A Convenient and useful book to carry around (15/15 people found this helpful)This book has the ability to communicate a whole new language for those who wish to talk to deaf people or even if you are just curious about how signing works. A fabulous , fascinating and educational read Clear, concise description of BSL (4/4 people found this helpful)There is a 1000 word index which is very easy to navigate. Different variants of a sign are explained clearly. The basic handshapes are shown graphically and described clearly. This means that the text descriptions accompanying a graphical image of a sign are clear and understandable. The BSL, ASL & British Deaf Blind Manual alphabets are additional useful pieces of information At the back there are a number of good contacts for deaf & deaf-blind people. This guide is very helpful to people learning sign language as a non native language....
