3/5 stars

Good adventure book (0/0 people found this helpful)

Good adventure book, a nice little warm up to serious summer holiday reading. This book will not challenge and is pretty gripping. Juan Cabrillo as as all action wonder-man is a bit annoying after a while to be honest, but the book is well written and the story is ok.

Excellent read at last (0/0 people found this helpful)

Well this book was a real surprise, as I tend to buy Clive Cussler books to fill in between good books. I'm not saying his previous books are rubbish but I guess they would command 3-4 stars at best.

This book is a real page turner and a thoroughly good read. It still is written in the American BS style, and you do have to take the laughably coincidental twists in the plot (read it you'll know what I mean) with a pinch of salt. However this book hangs together better than most of his previous books (I have not read all).

However I note 1 review giving this 1 star and all books are very subjective to the reader. Buy it, read it and let yourself be immersed in a jolly good tale.

Very disappointing (1/3 people found this helpful)

I've been a Cussler fan for over 30 years and have hugely enjoyed most of his books but this was a real stinker. The science regarding the hurricane generator was nonsense and it felt like it had been sponsored by ESSO or George Bush. Perhaps I'm just getting too old for this stuff...

At His Absolute Best! (2/2 people found this helpful)

This is a must read not only for fans of Clive Cussler, but for anyone with a taste for adventure and suspense. Much better than his pervious oregon adventure "Dark Watch".
There isn't much more to say than buy this book, you won't be dissappointed.

Another Gripping Tale from the Author (8/14 people found this helpful)

Clive Cussler was born in 1931 and grew up in Alhambra, California. He attended Pasadena City College before joining the Air Force. He went on to a successful advertising career, winning many national honours for his copywriting. He has also explored the deserts of the American Southwest in search of lost gold mines, dived in isolated lakes in the Rocky Mountains looking for lost aircraft and hunted under the sea for shipwrecks of historic significance, discovering and identifying more than sixty. He is married with three children, and divides his time between Colorado and Arizona. His credentials as a best selling author cannot be doubted and he has a large `stable' of best selling adventure novels.

Juan Cabrillo and the crew of the Oregon, a well disguised combat shop have barely escaped from a mission on the Congo River. Not in a hurry to commit is men to anything else for a while when the radio operator intercepts a mayday call from a boat under fire off the African coast. Much as he would like to ignore the Mayday, no seaman with an ounce of self-respect can ignore such a call. Cabrillo takes the appropriate action and saves the beautiful Sloane Macintyre.

Sloane is looking for a long lost sunken ship that could hold a fortune in diamonds. But what intrigues Cabrillo most of all is her story about a mad fisherman who claims to have been attacked in the same area by giant metal snakes . . .
