Reader Reviews:Probably (along with Ryans) the best account. (0/0 people found this helpful)Having read all the books on Bravo20, this is probably the most believable. All the books leave more questions than answers. In terms of equipment only 1 night sight and 1 gps amongst 8, surely not. They would always carry a back up of each, especially if they split into the usual 4 man patrols. A lot is made of the famous SAS belt kit that contains 'everything you need to survive for weeks'. Coburn was left with 2 half litre water bottles, no belted ammo and only 2 30 rd clips ( of which he promptly loses one). This is hardly adequate provisions for desert operations behind enemy lines. Ryan had only two packets of biscuits and no steritabs for the river water he collected. No one carried a plastic survival bag which would have kept the wind of them when laid up. This pocket sized bag could mean the difference between life and death in harsh weather. Not tactically sound to be in a bag but when you are dying of exposure surely worth the risk. I just find it hard to believe they were so badly prepared after dropping their rucksacks. I thought the Ryan tv program with Paul McGann was much better than the BBC version with Bean. Hope they bring it out on DVD. Setting the record straight! (0/0 people found this helpful)A long time coming but the frustration at more sensationalised accounts of the ill fated patrol is palpable and must have served as a motivation to keep going when the MoD were particularly difficult regarding the publication of this account.
More realistic than the others (0/0 people found this helpful)This is a down to earth, seemingly honest account of the famous mission. It doesn't have stories of a handful of guys taking on the entire Iraqi army. It's basically about a mission that went badly wrong. The soldiers only hope of survival is to avoid combat whenever possible and sometimes they just run away. They are trying to escape from a dreadful situation. I suspect strongly that this book is a lot closer to the truth than the better known and better selling books of McNab and Ryan. honest account (0/0 people found this helpful)im very happy now to have read all the book on bravo two zero the ill fated sas patrol deep inside iraq and this is probally the most honest one of them all it doesnt say anthing bad about anyone or doesnt make up false battle scenes, although the toture isnt as detailed as andy mcnab's its still a gripping read and honors the real heroes of B20 the men who lost their lives
Simply Brilliant! (0/1 people found this helpful)Forget the other books, read the truth.....fiction can be what you want, but the truth will never change. Mike - Welldone.
