An amazing story (2/2 people found this helpful)

I am a big fan of the Pern books but this book is by far superior. Elizabeth Kerner has created a central character that is both feisty but also endearing to the reader. I am totally engrossed in this world. I open the book and I'm instantly transported to a world where dragons still live and demons are real.

If you like Anne McCaffrey or Ian Irvine then you will love this book. All I can say to sum up is 'where can I get my own Kantri?'.

Excellent and original (1/1 people found this helpful)

As a major Pern fan, I have struggled to find anything that is as original as Anne McCaffrey's work for many years. I stumbled accross this book in a kind readers List at the bottom of a random page, and I thank that person with all my heart.

I took this on holiday with a couple of others which sadly were a struggle and left this til last. It was completely amazing.

It is written in a style I have never come across before. Its in the first person but multiple characters. Within a chapter it will state the name of the character narrating. It is quite startling but ultimately refreshing to get the first person viewpoint of every character, even the baddies!

The "Dragons" or Greater Kindred of the Kantrishakrim, are an ancient, sentient, race of peoples living solitary lives on an isle seperated from the rest of the world by a constant raging unpassable storm. On this island grow the ancient Lansip tree's which bear a friut with amazing healing powers and some say the elixr of life. No human has set foot there for many hundreds of years and every ship that has sailed there in that time has never returned. The Kantri have been there for 5000 years! Their existance has slipped into legend among the humans of the main continenet, but one girl, Lanen, has a yearning in her heart that goes beyond mere whim, to find out if the ancient Kantri truely exist. Little does she know that what she seeks is her true destiny, and somewhere there is another heart with as strong a longing...

This is a story of hidden depths and great love. I defy anyone to read this and not fall in love with the richly developed characters.

Dragon Mistress (1/1 people found this helpful)

This is one story which draws you in and hold you lovingly as you hurdle towards the cliff edge. This strong story compells you to surrender and Elizabeth Kerner does a wonderful job of having you begging and panting for the rest of the series. I have read this twice and will read it again because it is so beautiful a story. I would give more stars if I could. 10/10

Read, and you will not regret. (7/7 people found this helpful)

A tale of love, dragons and courage, written to draw in the reader from the very first. Elizabeth Kerner has the ability to make you care greatly about what fate may befall her characters - all of them. Very certainly worth reading, and far superior to much of the completely predictable fantasy works cluttering up the bookshops... I look forward to the next volume.

A feeling that stays with you long after finishing the story (3/4 people found this helpful)

This was the first book in the fantasy genre that I attempted. It took awhile for me to get in the groove, but once I got there, I finished it in one night! I would recommend it to any first time fantasy readers.
