It's slightly unfair to give this only 1 star, but the supplied software just flat refused to work on my system, and the tech support could offer no help whatsoever, and suggested I return it. It's not really surprising, though, considering it was released 5 years ago.
Whether or not the book itself is any good, I couldn't say, since I never managed to get that far.

Waste of time.
Its great if you want to learn how to speak america/spanish,
no good for main land spain.
Slightly different language.
But the book does tell you this on i think page six, which was a great help!! not!!

Do not be put off by the title. I have bought many books trying to teach me spanish. I have finally found one that works.
Most of the other books that I have bought I found to be confusing and not explained spanish from as much of a basic level to which I needed to learn. It also explains conventions within the book better than any other I have read. No more thinking "What does the 'bv' in the pronounciation bit sound like?".
The most important part of all is that lots of things are explained in a fun way. With games to test your skills. If you are still confused over pronounciation then the audio CD soon clears things up.
The only thing that I will warn the potential reader is that the book also focuses on Latin American spanish. Luckily for me that is exactly what I wanted.
A must buy for absolute beginners who want to learn the basics and learn about latin american spanish as well.
