Why pay good money for a book that is a travesty of the truth and appears to have been made up.

This review from the Liverpool Echo says it all...

""WITH SO many cracking Liverpool books currently on the shelves, it was sadly inevitable one turkey would be unleashed by publishers in an attempt to cash in on all things red.

So congratulations are in order to John Blake Publishing for an unofficial Steven Gerrard biography so inept, the biggest surprise is how it ever managed to get past the proof reading.

There are plenty of weaknesses within "Steven Gerrard: Portrait of a Hero" which could otherwise be ignored.

However, the most damaging mistake made by the author means the publishers will be living in fear of a solicitor's letter.

For reasons best known to himself, 22- year-old Salford graduate Adam Cottier has decided to credit numerous Gerrard quotes in the book to interviews with The Sun newspaper.

Unfortunately for the writer's credibility, these interviews didn't happen. Liverpool's club policy means the press office still refuses to organise exclusive interviews with The Sun.

It's true Gerrard's interviews may have been used by The Sun, with quotes picked up from the ECHO, the official website, or press conferences, but the Liverpool skipper has NEVER spoken to the newspaper on a one-toone basis.

The suggestion he has done so may prove a legal minefield for the publishers. Reputations have been ruined on Merseyside for agreeing such 'exclusives'.

One would have thought any publisher seeking sales for a Reds book on Merseyside would have known this.

It also reveals plenty about the writer's understanding of his audience. For his sake, it must have been ignorance. The alternative is too cynical to consider.

Of all the sources of material to get wrong, this is unforgivable. Any Liverpool fan reading the book who doesn't know otherwise will be angered if they believe the skipper conducted these interviews.

Should anyone come across this publication and naturally be concerned about how often it's suggested Gerrard has 'said to The Sun', rest assured that isn't the case.

People will be acting on his behalf on this matter, and if the book is ever re-published, it's inconceivable corrections won't be made - particularly as the true source of many of the interviews in the book is actually this newspaper.

That aside, it's an unrevealing read anyway, with nothing new or insightful on the career of the Liverpool captain.

Gerrard has his own official autobiography, written by the excellent Henry Winter, which is released after the World Cup.

My advice would be to invest in one of the far more superior Liverpool books on the market.""

Boycott this tripe on principle!
