Even though I had read a bit about Sudoku and seen the puzzles in the paper I wasn't really tempted to give one a go until I started to read this book. The introduction takes the solver from the most basic techniques through to the most difficult in a clear and logical way, with even a bit of humour thrown in for good measure and some whimsical quotes.

As someone intrigued by the sudoku phenomenon yet mortified by everything to do with numbers, I'm pleased to announce that James Pitts' book taught me how much fun sudoku is.
The introduction to techniques is to the point and easily understood. The author gives useful tips, some of which make you grin and none of them sounding patronising or too geeky.
The book has 156 puzzles of varying difficulty and with solutions provided to check and cheat.
It has normal paperback dimensions, which I like better than some of the smaller books. Less awkward when you decide to take it out with you. Now who sounds like a geek!
Oh, and it's true it is strangely addictive.

This is a great book for both those starting out, and for those more experienced. The first part of the book covers the background, aims, and history of Sudoku. the second part is devided into a number of Sudoku puzzles, split into novice, intermediate and expert levels.
The book does a great job of covering all the different tricks and hints for completing any sudoku puzzle, showing you everythign for where to start, in which cell your best of starting the puzzle, right through to advance techniques for solving the harder ones.
It came as quite a shock to me being able to solve my first puzzle following the guidance in the book, previously i'd just looked and though.. err. nope!!
The books a great buy amongst the horde of Sudoku books our there at the momment, and also is a little more than just a collection of puzzles (like some other books). For the price, its excellent!!

I've worked my way through many sudoku books (it's an addiction!!) and this is one of the best. The tutorials help you to understand some of the more advanced solving methods and the puzzles range from pretty easy to very tough.
All the puzzles are pure logic, not trial and error like some of the other books. Excellent stuff!
