My six year old picked this up in a bookshop mainly because he is aeeroplane mad and the cover attracted him. It is a little difficult as a read alone first chapter book but worth the effort of reading aloud and sharing. The book is set on a ranch in California to start with but encompasses a journey across the USA taking in The Mississippi, Niagra and New York. The descriptions are beautiful and a child can absorb quite a lot of geography without realising it because at the same time the plot is quite compelling. It reminds me a little of a more gritty Magic Faraway Tree book. I couldn't quite work out when the book was set which was a bit frustrating but didn't detract from my son's enjoyment. Contains a simple map of the twins cross country adventure and a brief history of the real Vin Fizz which adds to the overall package nicely.
