Reader Reviews:Book from my childhood never forgotten (2/2 people found this helpful)I have now children myself and this is a book that I have never forgotten. So much so that I had to search to see if this book was still available. This book would very much help a child with a loss but for me it was just the magical place that sticks very much in my mind.
A life-enhancing modern myth (2/2 people found this helpful)I have a much loved and very battered copy of this book that was given to me as a child when my little brother died. I buried myself in its fantastic adventures and was gripped by its alternative ideas about what happens when you leave this world. I have looked for copies ever since to pass on to others as it was a life-affirming story that I will always be eternally grateful to have read at a time of desperate loneliness. I now have new copies of it in Italian and Swedish but can't afford to buy copies of my old English edition with its beautiful black and white line drawings. My advice is to get hold of any copy you can and let as many people as possible read it, there's nothing else like it. Long time favourite (6/6 people found this helpful)I read this book years and years ago for the first time, and it is one of those books you can never forget and you will always come back to. The story about the 2 brothers, entering another world after they died and have to find out, that "paradise" is at a huge thread by an evil Lord. My Lost Treasure (7/8 people found this helpful)This book was first read to me at the age of 9 in school, a treat, 1 magic chapter a day. I never forgot this book and after leaving school spent a long time serching book stores for it to no avail, coming to the conclusion it had been made up by a wounderful teacher with a wounderful imagination. It wasn't until recently that my sister, who also had the book read to her, found it on this site and purchased a used copy as a gift for me. Reading it brought back some wonderful memories of my childhood, the fear and exhileration i had felt as a child for the two brothers and the sadness of loosing one another touched me even then. This book is an esential part of anybodies collection a fantastic and magical experience i cant wait to share with my children. Timeless Favourite (8/8 people found this helpful)This book has had a special place in my heart ever since my mother read it to me when I was four or five years old. Since then I have read it again several times, through the eyes of a child, a preteen, a teenager, and, -most recently- as a person who has seen a lot. I enjoyed it thoroughly every time, still shivering at the thought of Katla the dragon, still weeping when the brothers first leave their mother for Nangiala, inspired anew by the reality of this fantastic story.
