The Best Chocolate Novel Ever! (1/1 people found this helpful)

So, it's the Easter holidays I'm 15 and bored as hell. And, because it's sunny outside, I (like all teenagers probably do nowadys) stay in doors watching daytime telly (the same thing I've been doing for 2 weeks *yawn*). So in the last attempt to banish my bordem I head down to the library (another thing teenagers probably don't do nowadays).
I have a choice of three: Shopaholic and Sister from the popular Shopaholic series which I have nearly all read, The Jane Austen Book Club which I was very interested in or this one - The Chocolate Lovers' Club. I read the blurp on the covers of all three and I'm tempted by them all. However I am taken in more by the bubbly, funny story of Lucy Lombard and her three best friends that enjoy chocolate as much as I enjoy reading.
It only took me 3 days non-stop to read it, I just couldn't put it down. I was taken in by the humour of all the characters and their stories. I loved the way the characters just got over getting back their stolen goods or catching their boyfriends cheating when something else goes wrong in their lifes or they have their one second of lifes happiness. And, in some way, I felt myself understand the characters in certain stages of their stories. I can compare myself to Lucy more than anyone - I would've knocked over the bookcases too.
And now I've enjoyed the first book, as soon as I find time I will get on to The Chocolate Lovers' Diet which I've been told is funnier than the first one. When I've finished that one and read the rest of the Shopaholic Series by Sophie Kinsella (which I strongly recommend as it will make you cry and laugh all the way through) I will read more novels by Carole Matthews (which will be hard to choose as they all sound brilliant). I'm so happy that I chose this book instead of the over two and cannot wait to read the next adventures that Lucy, Chantal, Autumn and Nadia get up too.
So next time your bored I suggest you forget doing the housework or buying clothes that you probably don't need, and pop down the library and borrow their copy of this book because it will keep you entertained for hours and you'll find it hard to put it down - so it's a good excuse for not doing the housework or cooking or, in my case, boring maths revision.

Not a book to read if you are on a diet! (0/0 people found this helpful)

I love all of Carole Matthews' books and this one was eagerly awaited with anticipation. I usually buy them to take on holiday with. This one I started reading on a flight to Rome, where my husband couldn't get any sense out of me! I like Carole Matthews' humour and her easy to follow narrative style. One thing though! The characters all meet up in a coffee shop cum chocolatiers on a regular basis. The descriptions of all the sumptuous chocolate creations make my mouth water and after reading this book all I could think about was eating chocolate! So not a good idea if you are dieting!!

can I have some more please? (4/4 people found this helpful)

Typical of Carol Mathews, this book is hilariously funny ,fast moving and full of characters you can bond with.My only criticsm was that unlike her other books it had no ending and this necessitated buying the next book in hardback which I felt a bit aggrieved at but I had to know what happened to the girls!

EXCELLENT (1/1 people found this helpful)

This book is excellent. It was the first Carole matthew book I have read and will no be buying all of her others. I really could not put it down! It made me put on a bit of weight though as all the talk of chocolate set my cravings off!

An enthralling read (1/1 people found this helpful)

The Chocolate Lover's Club is the first book I've read by Carole Matthews and I have to admit I was drawn to it because I am a die hard Chocoholic. I didn't really know what to expect of her writing and have to say I was more than pleasantly surprised. So often books have one main character and a weak support cast and although they are often entertaining they fail to completely enthral. The Chocolate Lover's Club however has four main and very diverse characters and gives equal time to the lives of Lucy, Autumn, Nadia and Chantal with a strong cast of support character around these 4. Although Lucy is the key character in my opinion as the founder member of the Chocolate Lover's Club all four character's eventful lives are given equal status in the book allowing it to tick along nicely and remain riveting. An enthralling read which neither myself nor my Mother-in-Law could put down! I do recommend this book with one note of caution have plenty of chocolate available whilst reading!
