Reader Reviews:A Great BBC Adaptation (35/36 people found this helpful)This is just about the best of the BBC's adaptations. CS Lewis original adventures and the spirit embodied within them are adapted unbelievably well to fit two hours per story. The books which stand out are the epic 'The Horse and His Boy', 'Prince Caspian' and 'The Voyage of the Dawn Treader', although that is not to take away from the other four books. It's just these work so much better for radio than for instance 'The Last Battle'. If you buy this now, consider one thing. There will be whole new BBC Radio Versions of Narnia coming out in October (2005). It may be worth waiting to hear some of those before deciding which version to buy. Hopefully the new version will be rerecordings of these terrific scripts, but it's possible they may just be better or worse adaptations A beautifully presented collection (37/41 people found this helpful)There are three good reasons why you should buy this 14-disc boxset, as opposed to buying the seven titles individually. First, you save money. Individually, each dramatisation costs £12.99 so you save around £4.50 per title when you buy this set. Like with the books themselves, these BBC dramatisations are all enchanting Second, Beyond the Wardrobe Door, an eight-page illustrated booklet is included. The booklet contains an insightful commentary by Brian Sibley who dramatised the Chronicles. This is the closest thing to a "Making of ..." documentary you will get, as Brian writes about the creation of the series, from the conception stage in the late 80s to the broadcast of the "final bittersweet moments of The Last Battle" in 1997. Third, and the best reason of all, you get a limited-edition wardrobe in which to house all seven Chronicles. I would have paid the full price of this collection for the wardrobe alone. It captures the very essence of the Chronicles so well: a wardrobe that once opened would lead the unsuspecting to a world of magic, danger, and courage. The wardobe is beautifully designed. It has a quote from The Lion, the Witch and the Wardobe inscribed at the back and a wintry depiction of the famous lamp post appears on the back side of the wardrobe door. The collection will lend an air of Narnian magic on any bookshelf. The BBC dramatisations sound great and the boxset looks fantastic. Order you copy now before this limited edition is deleted.
