Reader Reviews:

5/5 stars

A brilliant book, elegantly argued and lucidly written. (2/2 people found this helpful)

Russell manages to take a complicated and chaotic period of English history and bring it to life. His thinking has become the accepted orthodoxy on the subject. Taught me more about the struggle between Charles I and his Parliament than all the other books I have read put together. Helped me get a First.
