Reading the Bible in chronological order (2/2 people found this helpful)
For anyone who wants to really understand the sequence of events throughout the bible, this is a wonderful bible to have. The explanatory notes before each days reading are very helpful. Although it is designed as a way of reading through the bible in a year, it is great for someone who just wants to absorb this incredible book in detail.The new international version of the bible is easy to read and the characters come alive as you follow the paths they took and their relationship with God in chronological order.

This Bible is valuable not only for it's structured daily readings but because Smith has worked hard to thoughtfully re-order the text chronologically. He does this not simply by rearranging the book order, but by editing complementary passages and putting them together. The result is a refreshing and natural read. The actual scriptures remain unadulterated and are all here in the original NIV translation, just not where you might normally find them! For example the Gospel accounts are merged to give a full seamless account of Christ's ministry without the reader having to jump from one Gospel to another to get the full picture. The impact of the Old Testament is also greatly enhanced by reading events in historical order. If you thought you knew your Bible - buy this and think again!

I am now almost halfway through my reading of this book, and it is proving to be extremely valuable. Reading through the Bible as it happened really brings everything to life. I would highly recommend it to someone such as myself embarking on reading the whole thing for the first time!!
