Plumb sets out clearly and lucidly the meaning that history has, and the way it is constructed. This book is an essential work for students who wish to more fully understand the subject's meaning and importance. This volume also contains touchingly personal contributions from Plumb's former student, Simon Schama, and former colleague, Niall Ferguson.
