I was trying to install MySQL to my Mac machine and I had some problems. This book helped to solve them.
It also helped me solve all the other issues that I had after installation: create a database, create a new user, change a password, etc.
I also used it as a reference for writing a Perl script to interact with a MySQL database.
I would recommend it to anyone that wants to start using MySQL.
If you do not want an advanced MySQL book, you can buy this one.

This is a great book on MySQL. I have found it to be very useful and informative.
It is however a bit dated now. The author should update it.
Great coverage of OBDC. Visual Basic, PHP etc.

I bought this book hoping to get some help with getting to grips with MySql. I haven't been disappointed. It has good examples and answers all the questions in a friendly manner that I have trawled the MySql documentation to answer.
The book is especially good for someone who has had little experience of databases; it goes through skipable basics. The book also has good introductions to PHP, Pearl and ODBC and how to use MySql with them. Shame this wasn't extended to include Java.
Although I haven't read any of the other MySql books I think this one looks good in comparison from the reviews I have read. Good for the first time user who needs some help getting to grips with MySql, and for answering those general admin questions.
