Brilliant ! (13/13 people found this helpful)

This is the first book of Mandasue Heller's that I've read and it was fabulous. Very much in the style of Martina Cole but set in Manchester. The story was gripping and gritty from the start with strong lead characters. Very touching in parts and your heart goes out to both lead characters at various times in their lives. The story is entirely believable and gives an insight to the world of low-life criminals and vice.

Fantastic! (5/5 people found this helpful)

This book has you hooked from the second page. You feel sorry for Mary and then you dont..... she seems to know what she is doing, but does she?

The characters are truly believable and I would recommend this book. I have now read all of Mandasue's and cant wait for the next one .........

Excellent reading. (3/3 people found this helpful)

As usual a great book with added interest for me,as a Mancunian living in north east scotland,I can relate to the places, and the general subject of the all Mandasue`s books.
Well written, with twists and turns, all Mandasue`s books leave you wanting and waiting for the next....so hurry up, I`ve read them all, and am awaiting a new book.....

First time Heller reader (8/8 people found this helpful)

I was enthralled by this book! When I read the blurb at the back I thought that it was going to be like a few other books that I read and so I wasn't really looking forward to picking it up. But once I did, WOW! The characters were scary real, everything about their lives was so true to life - this writer either came from that background or knows how to research.

The story itself is gripping. More than once I found myself screaming at the main character, Mary, "how stupid can a person be", "can't you see he is making a fool of you", and so on and so forth. The end of this book was sad but if it had ended any other way it wouldn't have been real - and that was the best thing about this book, just how real it was!
