As a former student of a distance-learning German course struggling with the sometimes complex aspects of German grammar, The German Handbook was fantastic in explaining grammar without complicating it with words such as interrogative pronouns, demonstrative adjectives, etc. It is very comprehensible in covering all aspects of verbs (with a good section on the subjunctive) while not abandoning the other areas of grammar, such as adjective endings. It even has a section on when to use words such as doch, schon and mal, which Germans seem to love saying, but we have trouble knowing when to say them. Brilliant, and made my course so much easier!

If you intend to understand the mine-field of grammar rules that make up the German language then you could do no better than this book.. The layout is in a clear and easy to understand format, and the subject matter has been ordered in such a way as to make it easy to learn in manageable steps. It always has the answers to my questions. Full marks.
