Reader Reviews:suffered in translation perhaps (1/2 people found this helpful)I was a little bit disapointed in this book I have to say. I got through it but at times I almost gave up. The story takes a long time to get going, and when the real action happens it almost feels like its too rushed. And the ending is too neat, too easy. Except for the last page which was actually quite emotional. Confusing eh ? And as some other reviewers have mentioned the English translation isn't great. I'm sure its a better book in the original Swedish. Just Brilliant (0/0 people found this helpful)There's enough in the other reviews to give the story synopsis. What grabbed me was the extraordinarly clever and fresh characterisation without resorting to cliche. Even minor characters are "realised" in just a few sentences so you care - positively or negatively - about what happens to them; but be prepared to be fooled because few are what they appear to be. Even the "villain" Wennerstrom only appears through other characters comments on him. There are two plot lines that converge about half way through this lengthy read, though it never appears too long nor any description appear unnecessary, but there are twists and turns enough to suit even the most jaded thrillophiliac. Okay, the proofreading has been slipshod on more than one or two occasions but the translation itself is excellent. Why oh why do we have to wait another year for the next volume in the trilogy to appear? C'mon publisher - get your proverbial out! I don't normally like thrillers (1/1 people found this helpful)But I really loved this book. Erudite and exciting. I really couldn't imagine anyone not liking it A fantastic read ! (6/6 people found this helpful)This book was the best read I have had in months (and I do read a lot!). Nothing since has come anywhere near the sheer 'immersion factor' this gripping novel exerts on the reader. The plot is complex, clever, the characters all utterly convincing (Lisbeth being a real masterstroke ), the general atmosphere rather spooky and very nordic...It is a hit on all sides and I could not recommend it strongly enough to everyone. The only downside is the cover jacket and the title, misleading potential readers into believing that the book is about a chinese woman. A very stupid decision from the english publisher. Totally Engrossing (9/10 people found this helpful) This first novel of a trilogy more than satisfied all I
