Reader Reviews:A great essential in the study of myths, an amazing edition (5/5 people found this helpful)Anyone having a serious interest in celtic myths and literature should read this amazing volume. It is obvious that a lot of care has been taken in publishing this edition and, though I do not normally care for illustrations, the work of Alan Lee is once again captivating. Definitly your first choise if interested in celtic and arthurian legends! Great For Fans of Celtic Myth (10/11 people found this helpful)If you are interested in Celtic myth then this book is for you. It is richly illustrated and beatifuly put together, and the twelve tales it has to offer couldn't be better. There is an index of sorts in the back explaining certain aspects of the myths and their translation which is illustrated with cute little ink drawings. Even if myths aren't your thing, get it for the paintings! Alan Lee is by far the best illustrater I know. A great book for any fantasy/celtic mythology lover's shelf. (12/12 people found this helpful)A wonderful book. For any avid reader of celtic mythology, Tolkien or high fantasy, this would be a great addition to any collection. The translation from the original Welsh is beautifully executed and perfectly conjures up the mystical imagery of the Dark Age legends and stories. Not only this but Alan Lee has lent his extraordinary artistic skills to the book, adding stunning visuals to an already enchanting set of stories. This would be worth buying even if it were an art book on itself. With the rising interest in fantasy and ancient mythology following the release of the film of Tolkien's Lord of the Rings, I think this would be a great source of information for those who are interested in the cultures and legends that influenced Tolkien himself. Essential to celtic-tale lovers + arthurian literature fans (5/8 people found this helpful)the tales are beautifully translated and truly transport you to a celtic-mediaeval world. The illustrations enhance the atmosphere. a real gift, even though i bought it myself! (5/6 people found this helpful)its not often that i feel a book is enhanced by its pictures, if the story is good enough who cares eh ? but this is brilliant, i refer to the hardcover version and its like these fantastic stories are bought to life, these are not stories like novel stories and they really shine with a bit more room to read them in and some fantastic artwork that enhances the experience ,5 stars well worth it Similar ProductsThe Welsh Fairy Book Beowulf (Dover Thrift) The Mabinogion (Penguin Classics) The Mabinogion (Oxford World's Classics) The Mammoth Book of Celtic Myths and Legends CategoriesAmazon.co.uk places this book into the following categories:
