This book is very easy to follow and contains many interesting interviews with some of the very best mastering engineers. However, for anyone looking for a guide to how to master their own material, there are other books available which offer a more concise and in-depth guide to the actual process of mastering. However, I'd still recommend this book to anyone interested in mastering as it does contain practical tips and will give the beginner or intermediate reader an insight into the actual process of mastering and what's involved. For a more technical and thorough insight though, look elsewhere.

If you thought this book would unlock the secrets of mastering, think again. If you wondered how compression and limiting affect your sound, think again. If you thought the word 'handbook' meant 'useful guide', think again.
What you do get is a tome that's thin on detail and big on interviews with mastering engineers telling you how you don't stand a chance. Now, this might be true - the engineer's ear is crammed full of experience and is famous for its ability to detect subtle sonic nuance. But if you are involved in home digital recording, have access to some mastering tools, and want to give your music the best you can, you won't learn a thing from this anodyne book.
