Good old Cussler (0/0 people found this helpful)

If you want straight forward page turning action adventure story then this is the one. Although it's part of the NUMA Files series, I have not read any of the others and I didn't find it a hindrance.

The Navigator is a statue that has been stolen from the Bagdad museum and Kirt Austin and the NUMA team are on its trail. But the story begins long before this in the days of ancient Phoenicia and then moves to the mysterious circumstances surrounding the disappearance of some of Thomas Jefferson's papers. How does all this relate to the statue? You had better read the book to find out!

confusing (0/0 people found this helpful)

I've read most of Cussler's books and I found this one to be rather disappointing. Usually I can't put one of his books down - but this one seemed to drag on and on and on. I read it over about two weeks which is unusual for me. I also found the story confusing - perhaps the riddle was just too complex for me.

Yes it was all very predictable - with good winning over evil, but the whole background with Solomons mines etc was rather complex (I'm still not sure how they actually saved the world this time).

Perhaps it's just time I read something a bit more grown-up.

A reasonable "there was nothing else at the airport" book. (0/0 people found this helpful)

My first Clive Cussler (and unheard of extra writer - no offence fella) book. Not bad. Very slow to get started, but a decent enough thread. Unlikely I'll buy another Clive Cussler book. Have to admit to being quite irked to the massive amount of "Wow, America is the best at everything" attitude largely observed throughout the book - reminded me a bit of the Team America film (but without the obvious not-taking-itself-seriously attitude). And the dodgy spelling.

Brief summary; it's ok if there's nothing else, but don't go out of your way for this one.

Great Action (0/0 people found this helpful)

I really enjoy Clive Cussler and this is another hard to put down book. I like the combination of action and historical aspects tied together. Great for winter nights or on a beach with a cocktail.

Return to Form for the master adventurer (0/0 people found this helpful)

This book reminds me of Cussler's earlier days with Dirk Pitt and Giardino rather than his disappointing Origen files that I am now avoiding after the latest one. The book has lots of evil megalomaniacs wanting to discover King Solomon's Mines and Thomas Jefferson manuscripts along with the heroine being involved in a family reunion with the bad guy. Complete with amazing underwater transport and signatory fights and chases with an extra jousting to add to the excitement this is brilliant.
