Reader Reviews:A delightful read (0/0 people found this helpful)This was highly enjoyable. There was such an easygoing jaunty manner about this book, which was immensely satisfying. McCall has such a beautiful writing style; witty eloquent words of wisdom coupled with accurate and knowing observations: I can see myself becoming quite addicted to this charming series. As for Mma Ramotswe - a lot of her success seemed to be down to sheer luck rather than any great skill but even so, very worthy of your time and effort. the no1 ladies detective agency (0/0 people found this helpful)so glad to have been introduce to this wonderful series. As soon as i finish one book i pick up the next. Light hearted and funny read. I was hugely impressed by this book. (1/1 people found this helpful)The author manages to create a wonderful evocation of life in Botswana. Important issues related to development and society and the role of women are raised but in a light-hearted way and with humour. It is a refreshingly different type of crime novel for the regular reader of the genre, but also worthwhile for someone who wants to learn more about life in this particular corner of Africa. Absolutely first class!! I'd also recommend reading Tino Georgiou's bestselling novel--The Fates--if you haven't yet!! Captivating (0/0 people found this helpful)A captivating read is an apt summation of this book. McCall Smith leaves his readers spellbound, and as if transported to Botswana, and all the characters in this novel. A master story teller whose ability simply leaves his readers wanting more, and more....... A beautiful story (0/0 people found this helpful)This beautifully written story with exquisite characters is not only humorous, but also full of wisdom in it. I particularly loved the style of writing and the amazing feel of Africa that the work generates in the reader. That feeling made me not to put it down from the moment that I began until the very end. What is more, I became drawn to Botswana after reading this book. Highly recommended along with: The Usurper and Other Stories, A blade of Grass, Disciples of Fortune,Tears of the Giraffe, Union Moujik for being captivating.
