Reader Reviews:great example of mock-heroic irony (1/1 people found this helpful)This very long poem is amazing for studying english literature though not for independant reading. It tells the tale of the farmyard cockeral Chauntecleer and his hen Pertelote. The irony is found in comparing a farmyard scenario to great events in history.Such topics mentioned include predestination, the destruction of troy and the burning of Rome by Nero. The poem is great for literary analysis as it contains such devices as circumlocution, digressions and rhetoric.
