Reader Reviews:Ryan is right? (3/9 people found this helpful)What do I say about this? I've heard of a RYAN character, but I thought he was all fiction. What this man was put through isn't just physical toughness, it's mental toughness as well. This has nothing to do with whining about a blister on your foot. It's about putting up with propaganda and the types of things TOKYO ROSE, SAIGON SALLY, and HANOI HANNAH did to the troops in Viet Nam. What kind of man has the mental toughness to constantly put up with the droning voice of someone trying to get you to throw down your weapon, betray your beliefs, and become a traitor to your Country? A very strong man, I believe! Imagine putting up with this for around 8 years when your typical tour in NAM was much less than that. Mental toughness is something that can't be gained through exercises. I commend this man for having the strength to walk through the desert into Syria all those days. That shows mental toughness! The One That Got Away (0/9 people found this helpful)After reading several 'Self Indulgent' SAS books, I found this on a par with 'Soldier I' which I also recomend. This gives a more thoughful outlook on the ordeal that how he himself seen the mission and a more human side to our 'elite', with mistakes made and fear shown. An excellent account of fear and confusion, where his skills help keep himself alive. A good book with gripping action and nbelievable endurance. (6/8 people found this helpful)the book started off with a slow pace which gradly increased up to quality action, it showed us another side to the fatal misson of Bravo Two Zero and it helped explain what happen to Leg Lane and Stan after the split. it also shows us what stuff the human body if in top physical can put up with and how the ledenady training of the SAS helped him. a brillent book Better Than McNab's "Bravo 2-0" (6/7 people found this helpful)I think this book is well worth buying.... If you haven't read anything on the Bravo two zero mission, then read this one first. The book is not as self-indulgent as McNabs, and at the end, you feel the same emotions that the author must have felt. The only reason it doesn't get the five stars is that the author makes reference to the fact that he felt he should have been in charge of the mission, rather than McNab,a bit too much, and constantly refers to McNab in a negative way, i don't really care what the author thinks of him.... Excellent way to find out an unknown man. (0/0 people found this helpful)Chris Ryan has captured the true escence of what I was searching for. That is an understanding of what my father actually did, who died in Jan 1991. He was a member of the Australian SASR based in Townsville but served overseas. Previously I had no knowledge of what his life was like, but on reading Ryans experiences can now atleast gain some understanding of his proffesion and way of life. Thankyou Chris Ryan for making this possible and alowing us to share in your heroic story and battle against adversity.
