Reader Reviews:Good collection of anecdotes too anglo-centric (0/0 people found this helpful)The good things about books on anecdotes in general and this one in particular is that they present a more amicable picture of history by showing how humane and even mundane the heroes of times past were. Hastings' collection reaches very modern times, and if anything it becomes at times too anglo-centric. In fact, when describing anecdotes that concern other countries he becomes patronising and even unrespectful of other people's traditions. The best example is with not doubt the treatment given to St. Joan of Arc, which in my view is unbecoming of a historian. CategoriesAmazon.co.uk places this book into the following categories:
