This review can't be too long. Everyone knows what a dictionary is. But this is a superb dictionary; clear and comprehensive in the identification of contextual variations. A pleasure to use, especially as a hard-back book. And supplied at an excellent price.

Bought the CD version as an upgrade to an older version, since the old one won't install on Windows 7, 64-bit OS. I verified that it would work OK before buying but after 2-3 weeks I keep getting an error message on loading, which disappears eventually, if you keep clicking. However, it's easy to use though I actually preferred the old version. In the last couple of days I have found there are a few omissions, but it's still the best around. I do think an upgrade should be considered by the authors, as this version is now 7 years old.

the majority ( if not all) of the comments made about this product actually refer to the book rather than the CD-ROM. The book is excellent, but the CD is disappointing. It is little more than an electronic look-up version of the book. The search engine is the main area of disappointment. Its easy to find a word, but not a phrase. One can do a boolian search for two words in a phrase. The result is a list of all entries in the dictionary which have the two words in them ( assuming an AND search). One has then to look in each entry. The words will not be next to each other - or even close! They just have to be somewhere in the entry. So most of what you have found is useless.
Verb conjugations are also disappointing. If its a regular verb you are looking up, you are referred to a standard example - your verb itself is not conjugated. This is a particular problem in looking up verb forms. For example if you look up "Prenons", the nous form of "prendre" you will not find anything. Its up to you to know or to guess that prenons is a form of prendre.

But from what I have used, it seems to do the job well enough!
The print isn't so small that you can hardly read it and it seems pretty clearly laid out. That's about all I can say at the moment!

This is the best French/English dictionary I have ever owned, extremely comprehensive and easy to use. The purchase of the dictionary also entitles one to 12 months usage of the online version, which is absolutely fantastic!
