Definitive and essential (2/2 people found this helpful)

This is an excellent history of one of Britain's finest movie studios. It's crammed with information and pictures and a mind-boggling filmography (see how many of your favourites have been filmed there). It's exhaustive and affectionate in its appreciation that this great studio has played in movie history. A must for all movie fans.

A singular breath of fresh air! (4/4 people found this helpful)

This devilishly handsome book, weighty and colourful outwardly, is a genuine literary treasure trove of facts, trivia and groundbreakingly rare illustrations. The author - a film producer himself, it seems - clearly cares about his subject, and his dedication to our most celebrated film studio shines through in every line. The Pinewood Story was quite possibly the most important film book of 2000 and remains an essential purchase: my only regret is that it took me so long to get around to reading it.

Wonderful. (1/1 people found this helpful)

It's hard to appreciate how almost 1,000 films have been made at the studios. Not just British, but international blockbusters too - most recently Lara Croft.

For anyone interested in cinema, this is a book for you! There are ... well, I lost count of the number of celebrity contributions - some funny, some poignant, but all interesting.

Names from Roger Moore, Michael Winner, Norman Wisdom, Charlton Heston, John Mills to great directors such as Ken Annakin, Roy Ward Baker, Michael Apted ... and loads more. They're all in there.

A wonderful, wondeful book.

Over-priced and Under-written (2/4 people found this helpful)

A book on pinewood studios: sounds pretty dull, but the blurb promises much - celebrity interviews, juicy anecdotes, wonderful pictures. Where are they? The book is outrageously over-priced: it does't even have any colour inside! Avoid like the plague.

Many happy memories (3/3 people found this helpful)

I have worked at Pinewood Studios for, I guess, forty odd years. This book was a wonderful surprise in bringing back so many of my happiest memories - and a few behind the scenes tales we all tried to forget!

Lavishly illustrated, it must rank as one of the best film books of the year.
