Reader Reviews:If you understand the title, buy the book! (0/0 people found this helpful)Don't read this review, just get the book and read it! It'll repay the time spent reading, 100x's over. Not a technical book, but should be on every admin bookshelf (0/0 people found this helpful)Not so much a technical how-to of system administration but rather a collection of insights and best practice tips around the processes of sys. admin gained from years of experience.
Benefit from this insightful book (1/1 people found this helpful)A great book - and yes, like other reviewers have said - they should teach this. Reads like you in your pensioner years as an admin writing an account of 'do do' and 'don't do' and putting it in a time capsule Back to the Future style. Non OS specific content is refreshing, as is their approach to explaining those things you have either witnessed yourself first hand, or alternatively now have that sinking sensation that you are a guilty admin, and need to take steps to address these Monday morning. Insightful, and found while randomly Googling and ending up at the authors site. A solid introduction to how to be a good sysadmin (5/5 people found this helpful)This book is distinct from all the others on my book shelf. I have a lot of books with technical content. Very few of them cover the subject material of this book. It's an indepth introduction to best practices when it comes to systems admin. It doesn't tell you how to do Unix, Windows, or any given operating system. It covers principles, practices and processes at a theoretical level. Avoiding the technical configuration details, whilst indicating best practices in the field of IT. It's an absolutely essential addition to any Systems Administrator's bookshelf. Common sense and experience, condensed (4/4 people found this helpful)Any system administrator / network administrator would benefit from reading this book. A practical handbook that gives you a solid foundation for running computer labs, offices, data centres, etc. Both juniors and seniors will find valuable insights here. Had this book been taught in university, the IT world would be a better place for it.
