Dreadful (1/1 people found this helpful)

This was a massive disappointment. I've read every Wilbur Smith and this is by far the worst. Two-dimensional characters, laughable magic (since when was this ever a Wilbur Smith strength?), implausible plot lines. Total self-indulgence and an insult to millions of fans. I'm glad I finished it, if only to say I did not give up - but a waste of time.

I am reading this book at the moment & i have found it is not up to the usual W.Smith books i have found it to be very far fetched. The surgegy sences were beyond believe.I will finish it but it has been hard going, i can lift & lay this book aside ,not like his others when you just had to read on to find what came next. Time to lay aside the typewriter i think

I Gave Up! (1/1 people found this helpful)

I think Wilbur Smith has lost the plot! I have always thoroughly enjoyed reading his work, but I have finally put this down, unfinished, because I hoped that as I turned each page, the story would finally grip me. It didn't. I am extremely frustrated and disappointed as I was so looking forward to this book.

Very poor (2/2 people found this helpful)

I had enjoyed his other Egypt novels and was looking forward to this. What a let down - poor plot, flimsy narrative and contrived climax! To be honest it reads as though the characters have been taken on by another author who lacks all of Smith's strengths.

Avoid if you are a Smith fan!

Wilbur's fantasy... (2/2 people found this helpful)

It's really dissappointing. Full of gratuitous sex scenes, lacking the fire of the previous books. I think it's WS's projection of himself wishing to be young again. Sad he could not have written a better ending to the series.
