Reader Reviews:Everything you need to know (0/0 people found this helpful)I am about to embark on a year around the world starting with South America. This book is an absolute gem...it provides a great insite latin amrican culture and people and also makes you aware of all the practical things you need to know before you go, from how to deal with culture shock to what to take. Excellent guide.
Does exactly what it says on the tin... (2/2 people found this helpful)I bought this guide whilst pondering which amazing trip through Latin America I wanted to travel; should it be Peru & the Inca trail or the Ruta Maya? The best thing about this book is that it gives you the relevant information that you need to make that kind of decision without you having to wade through an entire 10+ guidebooks that you won't have time for. The information is concise - when to go, what to try & see (or not to miss), festivals that may crop up during your visit, and a little history on the country; and yet you don't feel too bogged down or overloaded with facts & figures.
Nice little book (0/0 people found this helpful)Another L/A First-Time series and this Latin America is good and helpful and educational. I knew next to nothing about L/A but this book has help me to understand it and inform me and educate me and thus was worth the money! Excellent place to start planning your CA/SA trip (1/1 people found this helpful)I bought this as I was a little nervous about travelling in Central and South America for the first time and wanted some advice on the main issues I would encounter. It has been a great 'basics' guide, giving me useful advice; some ideas of itineraries, summaries of the countries, plus general advice on weather, cost, what to take, keeping safe and healthy etc. I've been using it as a cross reference with other country/area specific guidebooks and for that purpose it has been great! Just bear in mind that you will need to buy other, more specific guidebooks to accompany this one. Pretty good (0/0 people found this helpful)Some of the advice is pretty common sense and a little patronising, but the country reviews are excellant, concise and very relevant.
