5/5 stars

a must read, unputdownable (0/0 people found this helpful)

I originaly read this story when it first come out but decided to read it again as I really enjoyed it the first time - I have to say it is still a excellent! The story of cathy growing up on the streets and been taken under someones wing until her past comes back to haunt her is brilliant - and yet again i cried at the end - one of my fave martina cole books - up there with two women which is also excellent!

Unputdownable (0/0 people found this helpful)

I loved this book from beginning to end. It only took a weekend to read and I absolutely loved the characters, the plot, everything! The only thing I think would have completed the book would be for Denise to have made a reappearance as I would like to have known what became of her after they escape the school.

I would definately recomend to anyone who like these sort of books or would like to give them a go.

Gripping (1/1 people found this helpful)

Quite a long story with many characters, was a hard read but still really enjoyed this book. Read many Martina cole books and although they are all dark stories they are always different. I got into the characters and felt like I really knew them. Was upset to see the story end I wanted it go on forever. Great story and well interlinked between the lives of the different people.

Far Too Long (1/1 people found this helpful)

This was the second Martina Cole book I read, [after The Take] and whilst it had a strong beginning it seemed to lose it and meander in the middle section before a weak end.
Not as compelling as The Take but I find the books easy to read and good companions when travelling on business.

No point to it. (5/6 people found this helpful)

I have always been under the impression that stories should have a beginning, middle, and an end. It's fair to say that this book has all three. But i was also under the impression that a story is better if it actually has, oh i don't know, a story.
This book started off with loads of potential and i was flipping through the pages like nobodies business. But midway through there was a shift if pace and plot. In fact the plot seemed to have forgotten to make an appearance.
I started putting the book down and realising that i had no interest in picking it up again.
I did however, but found myself diappointed with every page i turned.
The worst part of this book has got to be the ending. Why?
That is all i can ask.
Why?
So the "story" is set in the East end, this should not have dictated such an ending. It was unnecessary.
Altogether i found this book had no point. It didn't have any particular plot other than a biographical look at the main protagonists life from childhood to adulthood and that just was not interesting.
I would recommend borrowing this book before buying it.
